It’s Tuesday. You open the AI tool. You paste the draft. You type, again: “no — warmer, shorter, no bullet lists.” It fixes it. Wednesday, same task, same correction, word for word.

The amnesia tax

Most AI is stateless — it holds no memory between sessions. Every conversation is a brilliant stranger you have to train from scratch. So you pay the same correction over and over. That’s the amnesia tax, and I wrote up exactly what it costs this week:

Here’s the part I want you to hear before anything else.

If you bought the pack, bought the course, and still feel like you’re starting over every morning — that wasn’t a failure of discipline. You were sold a static thing and told it was a system. You can’t out-discipline a tool with no way to remember.

The tax arrives in three forms: the minutes you re-type, the drift when corrections don’t stick, and the real one — a year of corrections that leaves you exactly where you started, minus the hours. Your corrections should be the most valuable thing you produce. They’re your judgment, written down. On a stateless tool they evaporate the moment you close the tab.

1. Open your AI tool and look at the last five things you corrected.
2. Ask, honestly: will you have to make any of those corrections again next week?
3. Count them. That number — the corrections you’re doomed to repeat — is your weekly amnesia tax, in instructions.

Stop — this counts. It’s the clearest measure you’ll get today of the gap between a pile and a system.
